Oh SNAP!

I got a roll of film developed from my Holga today, only three frames out of 12 were printable. I hadn't shot color film in a while, it is a challenge I will undertake again in the near future. Anyway here are the three frames. Shooting with the Holga is fun, its simple and just fun. I can't say that enough.

The FUTURE IS NOW...

As I was hanging out with Daniel and Tina last night, I had a flash of a photo essay in the near future. Anyway, So I am headed to Washington DC for a few months where I landed an internship with John Harrington Photography. I am very excited I know this is going to be a great chance to learn some stuff and hopefully I can come back and be a more effective freelance photographer. Wish me luck!

Daniel and Blue look back and listen to Tina.

Speaking of Words...

Went downtown with Becca this morning, we ended up buying a Holga, which we will experiment with. After that we sat down to some coffee and discussed many things. One of them being writing and the true meaning of words.

Have you ever noticed that some people say a lot with their hands when they speak. Well she is one of them, I think she is on of the most expressive people I have ever known. Whenever she publishes her first novel and get all rich and famous I can say "hey I knew her back when she..."

Super Tuesday...time to do make up.

With Super Tuesday in full tilt, Becca sat and got ready for work as Carlos and I watched CNN. I think I am growing very tired of the pres race already. I just want November to be here so I can vote and get it over with.

A Face...

Some stories require a portrait other end up lending themselves to a portrait. Today has been a busy day, Spent most of it getting a packet together and sending it off to another newspaper in hopes of landing an internship. While doing this I also came across an archive disc with bunch of portraits I really dig these. They may not be the best portraits ever, but I think they are pretty good.

New Lens experimentation...

I just got a 12-24mm lens this week, I have to remember how to put a wide angle to use. It has been a while since I had one in my arsenal. I have to remind myself not to over use it.

Last days in El Paso...

My last couple days in El Paso, I spent with friends and Family. Going home really allows one time to think about the things we try to forget. It also gave me some time to examine where I am and what I am doing right now in my life. With the new insight I have to decided to make some changes. I'm not sure where they will take me, but we will see.

Last glimpse of El Paso before I hit the sky for Seattle.

Dinner with the Folks...

My parents and I went out to dinner with some family friends. It was a fun night of relaxing. I also spent time with my English teacher from high school, who has always provided me with support and inspiration. I ended up leaving her house with a stack of books including a book of Roman Vishniac's photos of Jewish Ghettos between 1935 and 1939. Wonderful work!

The Crazed Philosopher...

Had lunch with Carlos today, we talked about everything from Grad School to the uses of the phrase "but Still." If this guys doesn't end up as one of the 21st centuries great thinkers there is something wrong with the world.

Being a tourist...

Sometimes it is nice to be a tourist, I went down to the market earlier today. I just hung around the fish throwers for a few minutes and was amazed at how many people come see them even when its cold outside.

Came back and started editing some audio I have been meaning to edit. Nothing special just kind of a audio journal entry.

Protests and Flash work...

Friday was a busy day. Not only was I sent out to Edmonds Woodway High School to cover an assignment, but Students from over 30 high schools and 10 universities walked out of classes in protest of the Iraq war and the practice of having military recruiters at high schools. They gathered at West lake Center and proceeded to march through the streets of Seattle.

After I shot the protest I headed out to Edmonds for the Enterprise. They had me there to cover H.A.V.E or Hunger Awareness Vigil Experience. The "dinner" consisted of splitting the group of students and residents of Edmonds that attended into three sections, High-income, Middle-income and Low-income. High-income dinner guests had a dinner with included three courses served by a waitstaff. Middle-income dinner guests sat at long tables and ate buffet style.
Low-income guests sat around blankets and only ate rice.

Here is the flash work mentioned in the title.

Bored and Cold...

Today has been a pretty long day. I got a portfolio critique from a photographer at the Albuquerque Journal today. My portfolio needed the once over, it had been a while since my last kick in the ass. The critique has already started to help me out. I also got a call to shoot a gig in Edmonds tomorrow afternoon. It feels good to get an assignment sheet again, lets all hope this trend continues.

Spent the afternoon working on cover letters, captions and walking around Capital Hill. I needed to get out of my apartment to get any work done. When I got back I was cold and eventually got bored so I took a self portrait...which you see below. HA!

Old photo, new post...

I have been looking into getting back to Guatemala in the next year or possibly going to Mexico city for a photo workshop I heard about yesterday. I shot this photo last summer in Chichicastenango's market. I really miss Guatemala and the trips through the country.
