Bugs Eye View...

After I was leaving a softball game I put my gear in my truck and wandered over to a field shot this with my phone. One of my friends calls it a bugs eye view of the world I guess I would have to agree.

Showing off...

As I was driving through Rio Hondo on my way back to the Star I saw a man riding a horse along Sam Houston Blvd toward San Benito. Now this is pretty common down here, but I figured I would stop, talk to him and shoot some photos since I was looking to get some wild art.

Turns out the rider Rudy Ortega and his horse Clown were headed to the Wal Mart in San Benito where Ortega works as a cart pusher. His friends at work had been wanting to see his horse so he decided to leave his home in Rio Hondo and ride into San Benito to show Clown off. Driving this road every other day makes one forget that nine miles is a short distance in a vehicle but on horseback it could take a more than the 15 minutes by car.

Makes you think at one time a trip to another town was an all day deal not a short hop.

Ortega also told me about his family ranch and his roping team. I gave him my contact info, maybe this could lead to a cool photo essay or something. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Parade in Progreso

Headed across the border for a few hours Sunday. There was a festival in Progreso that I had no idea about until I crossed. The streets were packed part of the main drag was closed off to vehicles. This Marching bands drum line was good.

Waiting...

Thursday my mom went into the hospital for a Mastectomy. I know my mom was scared but she is one tough lady and didn't show any fear, at least not to me. Luckily everything went well and the preliminary test came back negative for any more cancer in her system. We are all thankful for the results. All these photos were shot with my iPhone and edited with the best camera app. Enjoy and go tell your parents you love them!

"Regalo Para Mi..."

As you cross the bridge into Progreso like on most bridges leading from the U.S. into Mexico at times you hear a voice faint at first, but steadly grows louder as you step closer to the Mexican side of the bridge, "Regalo para mi!" Men and Women, mostly women at times a few other times many begging for change from tourists and other walking along the bridge. I think many people that go to places like the Winter Texan magnet that is Progreso tend to ignore these people and seem to forget that a little change (literally) can help these folks that gather under the bridge.

As Winter ends...

As the Season changes so does the dynamic in the Valley. Spring break rapidly approaches and many Winter Texans are heading home. Some to avoid the Spring breakers others say its simply time to go home for a while.
